2024 MASON VALLEY STEEL HUNTER BY ABEL CO USA

Welcome to the 3rd Annual Mason Valley Steel Hunter, situated just east of the Gold Rush mountain town of Julian and adjacent to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in San Diego County.  The Mason Valley Ranch is 8500 acres of typical southern California high desert terrain.  Low scrub in a very dry climate. (Field conditions are completely different than last year as it is now 3 years after the fire) Field Elevation is 2400 ft ASL. Weather in March is “usually” highs in the 70s/80s and lows in the 40s/50s with an extremely low chance of rain.

This match will provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy the weather of sunny Southern California while working through rocky terrain of the high desert.  Target engagements will range from roughly 100 to 1000.

Competitors will be expected to hike to all shooting locations that are not accessible to vehicles. 

Water will be provided at each stage with bag lunch on Saturday and Taco dinner on Sunday during the awards.

20 Stages total.  12 Saturday and 8 on Sunday.

Unicorn Charity target as always (we have donated over $2k charity from this event)

Friday check in and zero will have a 100 yard zero area but no extended ranges to proof dope so please come prepared.

Abel Company will be offering demo suppressors for any competitor that would like to use one. First come first served.

Camping on the premises will be dry camping (no RV hookups or electricity so plan accordingly if you are camping). Please contact Match director separately for camping arrangements.

No refunds will be available but if you need to sell your slot just keep us in the loop and we can adjust as needed.

5- Free Young Gun slots with the purchase of a regular individual competitor slot. 

RANGE OFFICERS:

To help us reward and better secure quality ROs during the 2-day event, vetted individuals will be offered a complimentary match slot for the opportunity to complete all stages in 1-day timeframe (on the RO Shoot Day), for points amongst the other hunters and for prize eligibility. The opportunity at this is set to take place on the competitor Check-in Day.

Skill Division (formerly Basic) – $175 (Individual)

Individual Hunter – $275

Team Hunters (2) – $550

There are no refunds. Transfers will be accepted upon MD approval and via email. The slot owner must email brittney@nrlhunter.org the new hunter’s name and email address, and wait for approval.

FRIDAY, MARCH 1st  
     RO SHOOT DAY

  • 7:00AM – RO Shoot Day (all 20 stages for points & prizes amongst all hunters)
  • 4:00PM – RO Weigh-in/Velocity at check-in table immediately after completion

     HUNTER CHECK-IN DAY

  • 2:00PM – 7:00PM – Hunter Check-in/Weigh-in/Velocity/Zero.
  • Location: Rock House/Barns

SATURDAY, MARCH 2nd

  • 7:30AM – Hunter Safety Briefing
  • 8:00AM – Hunters to Stages
  • 8:30AM – Intended time to begin hunting steel (12 Stages)
  • Lunch Provided
  • Line Cold – When last hunter has completed his/her 12th Stage

SUNDAY, MARCH 3rd  

  • 7:30AM – Hunters Arrival and move to stages
  • 8:30AM – Intended time to begin hunting steel (8 Stages)
  • Water Provided
  • ~3:00PM – Intended time of Day 2 completion (this will vary)
  • Awards begin immediately after match completion. Delicious Taco Meal Provided.

San Diego International is the closest and best option. Followed by SNA John Wayne Santa Ana, CA and Ontario, CA International but is a further drive in.

There will be on-site camping spots available; tent & dry RV (no hookups). Make advance arrangements with Serge; fees to be paid upfront at the time of arrival.
