2023 Blue Ridge Big 5

MD: Sean Johnson

Location: Benge, Washington

Dates: May 5-7, 2023

Cost: $150 Skills, $280 Individual, $560 for Teams

Range Location: 265 BECKLEY RD BENGE, WASHINGTON 99105

The Blue Ridge Big 5 is in the Channels Scab Lands of Eastern Washington along the Palouse River. Rolling grass, wheat fields with sage brush draws, and eyebrows where animals and targets like to hide. We have a good population of Mule deer, a few Whitetail and growing Elk herd.

This hunting simulated event will consist of 18 stages, so prepare accordingly. Round count will be 72-144 rounds, depending on your skill level completing each stage with either 1st round impacts, vs misses/2nd round impacts, but bring extra for getting velocity/PF for your tiebreaker, and zero’ing your rifle. Average target distance will be ~450 yds but hunters should expect ranges from 150-900 yds.

Friday afternoon we will be having welcome feist and the side matches will begin wrapping up Saturday night. The Sage Rat shootout, archery poker and maybe one more. We are going to run this just like we run our guided trips. We will have water at the stages and lunch on Saturday. Sunday we will have snacks and the awards banquet.

On-site camping on Range 1 with parking in designated areas only. You will be able to park near the firing line. Overall, the walk to and from the firing line everyone should be able to be able to do. A few short climbs, some uneven terrain with stubble fields mixed in. Use of ATV is permitted but must be approved by the MD prior to the match.

Weather in May can be a mixed bag. Cool to hot with an occasional thunder shower mixed in.

ROs WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR POINTS & PRIZES AT THIS EVENT. In the process of rewarding and securing quality ROs during the 2-day event, they have been offered the opportunity to complete all stages in a 1-day timeframe (on the RO Shoot Day), for points amongst the other hunters and prize eligibility. Their opportunity at this is set to take place on the competitor Check-in Day. ROs have been secured at least 30 days from the event, where the difference in the weather forecast between the days is unknown.
